“PHOTO REQUESTS FROM SOLITARY” ART EXHIBIT, January 14 – February 13, UUCSR Art Gallery, 48 Shelter Rock Road, Manhasset, NY. “Photo Requests from Solitary” is a unique collaboration between individuals living in isolated confinement who request a photo of anything, real or imagined, and the artists on the outside who fulfill those requests. Join us to view these remarkable photos and meet individuals and family members directly affected by prolonged solitary confinement. SOLITARY PUBLIC EVENT AT NYU LAW SCHOOL, February 15, 6 pm, Vanderbilt Hall, Room 220. Come learn more about solitary, HALT, and how to join the growing movement to end the torture of solitary and challenge the entire racist and horrific incarceration system.

  • Buffalo: Jan. 23, from 11 AM – 12 PM at the Raffi Greene Community Center, 1423 Fillmore Avenue: “Unmasking New York State’s Chamber of Living Death”. Come and see a newly-built replica solitary confinement cell (23-hour/day home of 4,000 New Yorkers)! Hear experiences of survivors of solitary, including Jerome Wright, statewide organizer of the Campaign, and spend time in the cell to get the feeling of being in solitary. Learn about this abuse of human rights and help stop it!
  • IthacaJan. 23, 5 pm, Vigil outside the Tompkins County Public Library,101 E. Green St., in partnership with Amnesty International group 73 and the Ithaca Prisoner Justice Network.

  • NYCJan. 23, we will meet at 6PM right inside the main entrance of the Skyview mall in Flushing, Queens. The main entrance is on College Point Blvd. near the corner of College Point Blvd. and Roosevelt Avenue. The entrance is right under a large, bright Target, Nike, & Uniqlo sign. The mall is just a couple of blocks from the 7 train Main street station. We will be handing out info about solitary confinement in NY & the HALT Act, and getting people to sign petitions and letters to their legislators. Click here for Facebook event link.

  • CALL Assembly Speaker Heastie at 518-455-3791 and tell him: “I am a New Yorker and I oppose solitary confinement. We need to end its use in NYS prisons and jails. The Humane Alternatives to Long-Term (HALT) Solitary Confinement Act (A. 3080 / S. 4784) would end the torture of solitary and create more humane and effective alternatives. A majority of Assembly Members support the HALT Act. We need your leadership to move the bill forward.”
