Having written many of the organizers at Pelacan Bay Prison I know how these people suffer during this period of hunger strike and refusal to work. Their struggle is our struggle in New York City jails and large turnouts at demonstrations will put the Board Of Correction on notice solitary confinement is unacceptable and alternatives such as treatment for the mentally ill and addicted and not solitary confinement serves the needs of those afflicted, the correctional staff and the public who wants to see nothing , hear nothing but news about Weiner, A-Rod and any other “news irtem” that takes the citizens minds off the inequality in America, the racist system and the one percent who dominates the 99 percent by their control of the media and so called politicians including Congress and the Executive office who are controlled by big donators to their elections.
